The Mexican Museum has evolved over three decades of representing the Latino, Mexican and Chicano cultures in San Francisco, and is poised to enter a new era with the construction of its permanent home in the arts and cultural center around Yerba Buena Gardens. The new six-story building will house permanent collections, special exhibits, educational center, a library, workshops and a café.
At the entry to the Museum, a four story tall atrium spans through the structure connecting the galleries and other program areas vertically. Incorporating the main public stairs and elevators, the atrium forms the heart of the museum and acts as an orientation point for visitors.
